What I'm Looking For

Looking at the editions of Best Sex Writing I've edited (2008, 2009 and 2010) are an excellent way to see what I'm looking for. Going forward, I'm especially looking for powerful personal essays about sex, published or unpublished, as well as articles and journalism. International submissions are welcome. Read the introductions to the last three years' and the types of work I cover. I'm looking for writing about sex that goes against the conventional wisdom. I want writing about sex that makes people think about it in a new way, that confronts sex and sexual stereotypes, that opens people's eyes, that says things people might find uncomfortable. I want sexual honesty, no holds barred.

Examples to look at include:

"BDSM and Playing With Race" by Mollena Williams

"It's a Shame About Ray" by Kirk Read (see my top 10 list of why I liked this piece)

"An Open Letter to the Bush Administration" by Mistress Morgana Maye

"Silver-balling" by Stacey D'Erasmo

"Sex in Iran" by Pari Esfandiari and Richard Buskin
